Just far enough from the traffic and casinos of the Las Vegas Strip sits the Cornish Pasty Co.
From outside, it may look a little questionable. It’s not close to downtown, which makes parking difficult, but once you get inside you are greeted with a friendly atmosphere and the smells of freshly cooked pasties.
A cornish pasty is a pastry that originated in Southwest England. It’s kind of like a pie. Traditionally, they are filled with steak, potatoes, rutabaga, and onions, but at the Cornish Pasty Co., they are filled with anything from Mexican food to apples and caramel - and of course they have traditional pasties too. We had nine people in our group - all with very different tastes - and everyone was able to find something they loved. One pasty is big enough to share, especially with sides. Speaking of sides - they were scrumptious - just be aware that they are soaked in cheese, and the oven chips were soggy.
The service is good. It was a little slow, but our waitress knew the menu and was able to give us honest recommendations. They accommodated families okay, but they didn’t have a kids menu. The coolest part of the whole experience is the atmosphere. They traded out chairs for church pews and had old photos of miners up on the walls. The open kitchen was cool and it is one of the few places in Las Vegas that is asthma friendly. This is a great place to eat in Las Vegas, especially if you want to get away from the buffets.
