Rated Top 10 Hot Dog Stands in America

If you are looking for a good, Hawaiian-style hot dog, then stop at Puka Dogs! Ranked as one of the Top 10 Hot Dog Stands in America and enjoyed by Anthony Bourdain, this hot dog is not just your run-of-the-mill street hot dog stand.

You build your own hot dog, choosing first a Polish dog or a veggie dog, and then mixing and matching from a variety of island relishes and sauces. We would also recommend that you try the mustard-it was much more sweet than spicy. Don’t be shy about trying multiple sauces or relishes; they will let you choose more than one. Our party especially loved the pineapple relish and some chose to pair it with the mango relish. The hot dog comes wrapped completely in a homemade bun. The bun is soft and doesn’t make the hot dog feel too heavy or greasy. Much like the mustard, the spicy sauce was not very spicy, even though it said there were different levels of spice. We also enjoyed their lemonade. The Puka dogs are around $8.50.

If Polish or veggie dogs are not your thing, this may not be your place. However, if your party is split, like ours was, on what to eat, Puka Dogs is located in the Poipu Shopping Village near a few other places to eat (we tried Island Tacos and Papalani Gelato). Seating is limited here, as it is with most places around the shopping village, but there are a few tables, along with benches, throughout the shopping area.

We would definitely recommend Puka Dogs. Even the members of our group who do not like hot dogs enjoyed these because of the relishes and delish buns. It is also a quick eat, so you can eat and get back to enjoying your sunny day in Hawaii!
